چکیده

Schwannomas, arising from the nerve sheath, are rare tumors of the orbit. They may present with various clinical presentations depending on localization of tumors in the orbit and the nerve from which they arise. Therefore, they should be considered as differential diagnosis of orbital disease. In this study, the case of isolated orbital schwannoma is discussed in the light of the literature. A 41 year old female patient was referred to the hospital with a painless mass localized near the inferior part of the left orbit. Eye examination of the patient was normal except for the mass. Orbital computerized tomography showed a wellbordered, solid softtissue lesion measuring 15x10 mm in size, located in the extraconal space of the inferolateral orbit. As a result of the histopatholgical examination of the totally excised mass, the diagnosis was established as benign shwannoma. No complications were observed during the one-year follow-up of the patient.

PURPOSE To report a case of orbital oculomotor nerve schwannoma extending to the cavernous sinus through the superior orbital fissure presenting with proptosis, but without any neurological sign. CASE REPORT A 32-year-old man presented with axial proptosis of his left eye. Visual acuity and other ocular examinations were normal. Orbital magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-defined fusif...

Rare retro-orbital intraconal occurrence of benign schwannoma - a case report.

Schwannomas otherwise referred to as neurilemmomas are benign, slowly progressing, encapsulated tumors arising from Schwann cells in the peripheral nerve sheath. They may grow along any peripheral or cranial nerve. Amongst the cranial nerve schwannomas, the eigth cranial nerve is the commonest site. But orbit is a rare site for their occurrence. Solitary orbital schwannomas account for 1% of or...

Orbital Cystic Schwannoma Originating from the Frontal Nerve

Schwannomas of the orbit are very rare benign neoplasms. Intraorbital cystic schwannomas originating from the frontal nerve are even rarer, with only 1 case reported to date. This is most likely due to the fact that, in most cases, the origin of the orbital schwannoma cannot be identified intraoperatively. The nerve origin is usually speculated from histological examination of the specimen and ...

Schwannoma of the Orbit

BACKGROUND A schwannoma is a benign, slow-growing peripheral nerve sheath tumor that originates from Schwann cells. Orbital schwannomas are rare, accounting for only 1% of all orbital neoplasms. In this study, we retrospectively review orbital schwannomas and characterize clinical, radiologic, and histologic features of this rare entity. METHODS A retrospective review was performed to identif...

Benign schwannoma of the maxillary antrum.

Schwannoma also known commonly as neurilemmoma and schwann cell tumor is a benign nerve sheath tumor. About 1/3(rd) cases of schwannoma arise from the head and neck region but rarely from the nasal and paranasal sinuses. The recurrence rate in these cases has reported to be very rare. We report a rare case of schwannoma in a 60-year-old woman arising from the maxillary sinus further eroding the...
